Terri Fraser – Artist and Storyteller Rooted in Nature
Terri Fraser is a contemporary American artist whose multidisciplinary practice spans oil painting, sculpture, and mixed media. Based in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, her work is deeply influenced by the natural world, personal memories, and the interplay between structure and spontaneity.
Fraser's artistic journey began with plein air landscapes, reflecting her profound connection to the countryside. Over time, her focus shifted towards abstraction, utilizing grids and circles as foundational elements to explore themes of memory and emotion. This evolution became particularly pronounced during the COVID-19 pandemic, prompting her to delve deeper into introspective and abstract expressions.
Her sculptures often incorporate found materials—such as metal, wood, plastics, and glass—assembled into forms that echo natural structures. These works not only celebrate the beauty of the forest but also express concerns about environmental degradation and habitat loss.
Fraser holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Ohio Wesleyan University. Her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions, including a solo show at the Hunterdon Art Museum in 2021, awarded as part of their Members Exhibition. She has also exhibited at venues such as the Ivy Brown Gallery in New York & Brooklyn and MGalleries and WhittemoreCCC in New Jersey.
Through her art, Fraser invites viewers to reflect on their own experiences and the world around them, fostering a dialogue between the personal and the universal.
